BISWANATH CHARIALI: A shooting incident took place on Wednesday night at Jaypur village under Gohpur police station, located along the Assam-Arunachal border in which a youth named Milkiya Mushahari was seriously injured. The Gohpur police arrested a youth identified as Chandan Kumar from Bihar allegedly involved in the incident, along with a pistol.

According to information, two youths namely Chandan Kumar and Subhash Kumar from Bihar had come to Jaypur for business-related reasons. It needs mention here that a section of youths in the northern region of Gohpur have taken a step towards self-reliance through king chilly (bhot jalakiya) cultivation and they promote this agriculture through social media. So many outside traders come to Jaypur to purchase the produce for marketing at places like Dimapur. The said youths visited Jaypur on earlier occasions, too. Last night, they went to one Sumit Narzari’s house at Jaipur for business-related work and later, they proceeded to attend a marriage ceremony and subsequently the firing incident took place.

Subhash Kumar fled the scene while Chandan Kumar was arrested and was being interrogated by the police. The police also seized the unlicensed pistol used in the shooting and the vehicle bearing number AS06J1520 used by the two youths. Meanwhile, arrested Chandan Kumar claimed that the incident occurred unknowingly.
