Kamrup: A person was killed while 12 others were injured in a clash over a land dispute in Assam's Kamrup district here on Thursday.

As per reports, the incident took place in the Sonotali area on Thursday morning.

"One person was killed and 12 others injured in the clash between two groups over a land dispute. We have arrested four persons in connection with the incident," ANI quoted Hitesh Roy, Superintendent of Police, Kamrup, as saying.

The deceased has been identified as 50-year-old Ali Akbar who is said to be a local farmer.

As per the police, the dispute took place over a piece of land in Kismat Kathami village in the Sontoli area which eventually turned violent. The two groups attacked each with iron rods, sticks and sharp weapons.

All the injured persons were initially taken to Sontoli Primary Health Centre of which eight of them were referred to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

In March this year, in a clash over a dispute for a piece of land between two families, a married woman named Sofia Khatun was allegedly hacked to death and over 10 others, including women as well as children, were grievously injured in the Nagaon Itapara area on the outskirts of Nagaon town.

Sources said that among those who were grievously injured were Nurjamal, Taibur Rahman, Hobibur Rahman, Rupsana Khatun, Faizun Nehar, Hafiza Khatun, and four children.

All the injured persons were immediately admitted to Nagaon BP Civil Hospital for treatment, sources added.

As per information received, Jakir Hussain had a dispute with Abdul Salam and others over a piece of land for over years. Following the dispute, Abdul Salam and others of the Chut Rupahi area, well equipped with sharp weapons, allegedly went on a rampage and attacked the family members of Jakir Hussain with sharp weapons.

As a result, Sufia Khatun, wife of Jakir Hussain, was killed on the spot and more than 10 members of the same family, including children and women, were grievously injured in the clash.
