Guwahati: One person was killed while two others were injured after a tree fell upon an auto-rickshaw on Wednesday in Assam's Karimganj.

As per reports, the incident occurred near the Karimganj fire service station, and the deceased was identified as Azahar Uddin.

Three of them were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. However, the driver of the auto-rickshaw died.

" After a tree fall on an auto-rickshaw near the fire station in Karimganj, three people were injured. We took them to the hospital immediately, but the driver couldn't survive and died at the hospital,'' an official said.

Incessant rain in Assam has caused havoc and has completely disrupted normal life and businesses. In the coming days too such situation is expected to continue as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the northeastern region will continue to receive heavy rainfall till June 17 and also issued a red alert for the state of Assam and Meghalaya.

So far, Assam has registered 42 deaths due to floods and landslides this year.
