Assam: One More Nabbed From Moirabari on Suspicion of Delivering SIM Cards To Pakistani Agents

GUWAHATI: On March 14, the Assam Police detained a single person in the Moirabari neighbourhood of Morigaon on suspicion of giving pre-activated SIM cards to Pakistani operatives.

The police conducted a raid at Langer Badi in Moirabari and took 438 SIM cards from one Mofidul Islam. Islam has been detained by the authorities in the interim. Regarding the occurrence, an investigation has been opened.

A crime branch team discovered a scheme earlier this year in which certain Pakistani agents were being supplied with SIM cards obtained fraudulently from several service providers. In an operation that was conducted in Assam's Nagaon and Morigaon districts, 10 people were reportedly detained.

SDPO Kaliabor, Addl. SP (Crime), and a number of Nagaon District police officers launched an operation that resulted in the arrest. In the Morigaon district's Moirabari on February 24, Assam police detained three online criminals.

Also taken from their possession were a few offensive objects. After conducting a search operation at Xogunbari in Moirabari, Morigaon, on Friday night, the Morigaon police managed to capture the notorious cybercriminals.

The arrested cybercriminals have been named as Ishaque Ali, Rabbul Islam, and Gyass Uddin. The three suspects reside in Moirabari, a Xogunbari community. 11 mobile phones, a Pulsar bike with the licence plate AS-02A-H5609, and a total of 1,720 SIM cards were confiscated from them.

Based on specific information the police had provided, search activities were started. The evening-starting search operations continued until twelve in the morning.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma chaired a review meeting on 11th of January, Wednesday. It was a police review meeting where certain areas including recruitment of people, tackling the new age crimes, internal administrative issues etc were discussed.
