Assam: Opening  Event of Raha H S School's 120th Anniversary Celebration Concludes

RAHA: The opening ceremony of the year-long 120th anniversary celebration of the Raha Higher Secondary School, one of the oldest government educational institutions for higher education in the Nagaon District and situated in the heart of Raha town concluded on Thursday with enthusiasm. The school which started functioning in 1905 and will step into its 120th year in January 2025.

The opening function was attended by all the students, teachers and other employees of the school along with several invited guests. The event was also joined by former students of the school from different parts of the country and even abroad.

The inauguration programme began with the hoisting of the school flag at 10 AM by Himangshu Dey, a former student of the school who had secured 1st rank in the state in the HSLC examinations in the year 1974 and is presently a resident of London in the UK.

This was followed by the ceremonial lighting of 120 earthen lamps by the former principals, retired teachers, employees of the school and other distinguished guests. They also paid their homages to the martyrs at 10.45 AM led by Bichitra Konwar, brother of Assam agitation martyr late Prabhat Konwar.

The Smriti Tarpan at 11 AM was performed by Upananda Kataki, Executive Director of Powergrid, Govt. of India, and a former student of the school who had secured the 9th position in the state in the HS examination in the year 1982.

Raha MLA Sashikanta Das, a former student of the school, inaugurated the formal discussion programme remembering the past years of the school which was presided over by Diganta Kumar Deka, president of the 120th anniversary celebration committee. Prabhat Chandra Nath, principal of the school and secretary of the celebration committee explained the objectives of the programme and Nagaon MP Pradyut Bordoloi also took part in the programme as distinguished guest.

Gunahas Bora, former principal of Raha College and ex-student of the school, and Dr Beda Kumar Chaliha, principal of Raha College and writer Sarmistha Pritam, an ex-student of the school attended the programme as keynote speakers.

A function to felicitate the meritorious students of the school was also held from 12.15 PM onwards.
