Assam: Opposition MLAs Will Soon Join BJP, Says Bhabesh Kalita

He further informed that the Mahayogdan program will be held where all the MLAs and leaders who are willing to join can be part of the program.

Guwahati: Assam Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) president, Bhabesh Kalita on Thursday claimed that several MLAs from other parties will soon join the saffron party.

''MLAs and leaders from several parties will soon step into BJP, '' he said during an executive meeting of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in Rangia.

He further informed that the Mahayogdan program will be held where all the MLAs and leaders who are willing to join can be part of the program.

Taking a jibe at Congress, Kalita also stated that the corruption has brought the party to this situation from which they are unable to recover.

''Congress will stay out of power for the next 25 years,'' he claimed.

Riding on high confidence, Kalita also claimed that BJP will win more seats in the Lok Sabha seat elections in 2024.

In November last year also, Kalita had claimed that Several Congress members of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the state were in the queue to join Bharatiya Janata Party.

''More will join us in the coming days as several Congress MLAs are in the queue,'' he added.

Meanwhile, while countering BJP over the statement made by Kalita, Assam Congress president Bhupen Borah had suggested that the saffron party should focus on the development of Assam, instead of luring and poaching MLAs of other parties.

Prior to this, two MLAs of the Congress party -- Rupjyoti Kurmi and Sushanta Borgohain had quit the party and joined the BJP. Later, the duo won the by-elections from their respective constituencies.

In the by-polls, in last year October, the BJP and its allies swept all the nine Assembly seats in the northeastern states of Assam, Meghalaya, and Mizoram.

The Congress, which had governed these states for many decades, scored a zero.
