GUWAHATI: Assam's opposition legislators called for a condemnation motion against BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi during a heated session on Friday. The call followed his controversial remarks during a Rajya Sabha discussion in which he referred to Assam's Dhubri district as "mini Bangladesh."

The demand was made by Congress MLA and leader of opposition Debabrata Saikia, who called Trivedi's remark offensive to the state of Assam and urged the house to officially condemn it. Rafiqul Islam, an AIUDF lawmaker, backed his position by challenging the government's position on Dhubri's statehood.

Although Speaker Biswajit Daimary expressed willingness to offer his perspective on the issue, the assembly session moved forward without resolving the matter, leaving the appeal for a condemnation motion unaddressed.

Meanwhile, the Assam Pradesh BJP has strongly condemned Trinamool Congress MP Saugata Roy’s remarks in Parliament, describing Assam as the “Land of Lahe Lahe.” The party accused the Congress and its allies of consistently disrespecting Assam and its people, demanding an apology for the statement.
