KOKRAJHAR: As the forthcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections are expected to take place in September 2025, political parties are working overtime to garner support. Meanwhile, the Election Commission has yet to make an official announcement. On the other hand, the Assam Chief Minister recently indicated that the BTC polls are on the horizon.

As a common phenomenon, as many as 110 supporters of UPPL and BJP joined the BPF in a joining ceremony held at Banargaon today. The BPF has decided to field retired Block Development Officer Kumud Chandra Narzary from Banargaon constituency while the picture of UPPL is not clear as to whom it will give ticket.

Talking to reporters at Banargaon, Kumud Chandra Narzary, a potential BPF candidate, asserted that the people would give a fitting response to Rajiv Kumar Brahma, BPF-turned-BJP MCLA in the upcoming elections.

With political momentum shifting, the BTC elections promise to be a high-stakes battle. Narzary also said that over 110 active workers of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) formally joined the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) today. As the elections approach, massive competition has emerged among political parties to strengthen their bases. One of the key constituencies in BTC is the 9 No. Banargaon Council Constituency, which witnessed a major political development today.

A grand joining event was organized by the BPF in this constituency, where over a hundred leaders and workers from the ruling BJP and UPPL formally joined the BPF political party. The new members were warmly welcomed with traditional gamochas with BPF party symbol marking their official entry into the party. BPF leaders expressed confidence in retaining their stronghold in Banargaon. They also vowed to reclaim the seat from Rajiv Kumar Brahma, the current Member of the Council Legislative Assembly (MCLA), who was originally elected on a BPF ticket but later joined the BJP.
