Assam: Over 44,000 Bottles of Codeine Phosphate Cough Syrup Seized in Sribhumi

SRIBHUMI: Assam Police seized 44,100 bottles of codeine phosphate cough syrup (ESKUF) in a major drug bust at the Churaibari check post in the Sribhumi district on Sunday. Sri Bhumi Police conducted the operation based on credible intelligence.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma applauded the police’s immediate action, sharing his appreciation on social media with the message, “Good job @assampolice.”

Authorities have launched a thorough investigation to uncover the source and distribution network behind the illegal drug shipment.

In a similar incident, Assam Police seized a huge quantity of cough syrup and arrested two persons in this regard in Assam's Sribhumi district along the Assam-Tripura border earlier in March.

According to officials, the police seized 9700 bottles of cough syrup from a truck in the Churaibari area in Assam's Sribhumi district.

Based on intelligence input, a police team intercepted a truck at the Churaibari check post at the Assam-Tripura border. Assam Police conducted a thorough search and discovered approximately 193 cartons containing about 9,700 bottles of codeine phosphate cough syrup Eskuf/Phensedyl in the vehicle, according to a police officer from the Sribhumi district.

The official stated that they had detained two residents of West Bengal, Sadananda Ray and Sanjay Ray. Further investigation in this matter is underway, he added.
