Assam: Passenger Arrested with Over 1 Kg Morphine on Rajdhani Express in Guwahati

Guwahati: A passenger on the Rajdhani Express, which was headed for New Delhi, had more than 1 kg of suspected morphine seized during a routine inspection at the Guwahati train station on Wednesday morning.

Ajoy Kumar Gupta, 26, was arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) for allegedly transporting the contraband after acting on confidential intelligence.

Gupta was discovered in possession of 1.008 kg of the prohibited substance. He is a resident of the the village of Jaitpura in the Kaimur district of Bihar. He was reportedly travelling to Uttar Pradesh after boarding the train at the Mariani railway station in Assam when the police intercepted him.

The GRP quickly arrested Gupta when the discovery came to light during the inspection of train number 12423 DN.

Under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, legal action has been taken, and additional research is being done to determine the origin and intended use of the illegal substance.

This seizure demonstrates how vigilant law enforcement officials are in their efforts to stop drug trafficking via the region's railway networks.

Recently, Assam Police intensified their anti-drug operations, seizing narcotics worth over ₹11 crore in three separate raids. Cachar Police confiscated 1.17 kg of suspected heroin valued at ₹5.1 crore from Dighar Fulertol and 73.97 kg of ganja worth ₹38 lakh from Dhanehari under Sonai Police Station.

In Karbi Anglong, police intercepted a bus and seized 1.22 kg of suspected heroin valued at ₹6 crore. These operations led to the arrest of four individuals.

Separately, Marikolong Police in Nagaon apprehended a notorious drug dealer in Dimaruguri and seized a significant quantity of heroin, reinforcing the state’s ongoing crackdown on narcotics.
