GUWAHATI: Amid nationwide raids against leaders and members of the Popular Front of India (PFI), the National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted a similar operation in Guwahati's Hatigaon area in the wee hours of Thursday.

A raid was reportedly carried out at around 3 AM, in the wee hours of Thursday, at House number 26 at Friends Path in the Hatigaon area. The NIA team specifically targeted the residence of PFI leader and North East Regional Secretary Aminul Haque, according to reports received.

The PFI leader has taken into custody by NIA on accusation of terror funding, organising training camps, and radicalizing people, especially the impressionable youth, to join proscribed organizations.

The North East Regional Secretary Haque is known to have been detained several times in the past for questioning.

The landlord of the house, where the operation was carried out, has been identified as Mahrum Ali. He had been living as a tenant here for the past five years with his wife and two children.

Moreover, another PFI leader identified as Farhad Ali Ahmed was arrested from Dispur.

Meanwhile, reports mention that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out major raids against the Popular Front of India (PFI) across the country on Thursday and arrested over 100 members and people associated with the organisation.

NIA and ED carried out search and arrest operations at multiple locations in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and other states, where the central probing agencies were supported by the state police forces.

In the massive operation, being dubbed as the "largest ever investigation till date", arrests have taken place in more than 10 states so far. According to reports, the Union home ministry is keeping close tabs on the operations.

The raids were undertaken by more than 200 officials of NIA, assisted by the ED, at the official and residential premises of the people associated with PFI.

So far, arrests have been made in Guwahati, Lucknow, Mangaluru, Malappuram and several other places.
