DOOMDOOMA: Kamini Deka, an elderly resident of Laxminath Bezbarua Sharani, Doomdooma, passed away in Guwahati on Saturday morning due to heart failure. She was 73 years of age and is survived by husband Prabhat Deka, former Vice-chairman Doomdooma Town Committee (now Doomdooma Municipal Board), two sons, one daughter and one son-in-law.
She was closely associated with Doomdooma Assamese Puja Aru Natya Mandir Samiti, Doomdooma Namghar Samiti, Doomdooma Sakha Xahitya Xabha, Doomdooma Shiva Mandir Samiti, Azad Road Kali Mandir, etc.
She was one of the organizers of the Jagannath Nam festival held at Doomdooma Asamiya Puja Ghar every year in the month of Bohag and the Krishna Pacheti festival held at Doomdooma Namghar every year in the month of Bhada.
Her death has cast a pall of gloom and was widely mourned by many organizations including Doomdooma Asamiya Puja Aru Natya Mandir Samiti, Doomdooma Namghar Samiti, Doomdooma Sakha Sahitya Sabha, Senior Citizens Association Doomdooma, Doomdooma Shiva Mandir, Warriors’, Doomdooma Anchalik Samiti, Shankari Kala-Krishti Vikas Mancha, Rotary Club of Doomdooma, and Doomdooma Press Club.Her cremation will take place on Sunday morning after the arrival of the body from Guwahati.
