KOKRAJHAR: The long-pending demand for decomposing waste materials in Kokrajhar town is going to be fulfilled as a new segregation trommel machine has been set up and has become operational from today at the waste dumping ground. The segregation machine started functioning at the dumping ground where the chairperson of Kokrajhar Municipal Board (KMB) Pratibha Brahma along with activists of NERSWN NGO witnessed the formal launch of the trommel machine.

Talking to newsmen, Pratibha Brahma said that the installation of a waste segregation machine in Kokrajhar was a long-pending demand of the citizens of Kokrajhar as a hill of waste materials had formed over the decades. She said that the present UPPL government led by Pramod Boro had taken key initiatives to transform Kokrajhar into a clean and green town with hygiene and moves for beautification. The waste segregation machine could have been set up much earlier if the step was taken by the previous council government, she said, adding that the installation of trommel machine became a reality today at the behest of BTC Chief Pramod Boro and that the decomposing of waste materials dumped in the dumping ground will be segregated. She also said that local people have been complaining to the authority to make alternative arrangements for many years and finally with the installation of this machine, they will get great relief.

Brahma said that to segregate the hilly waste dumping ground, more than six months would be required. She called upon the citizens of Kokrajhar town to maintain segregation of plastic in their own homes as every household has been given buckets from the KMB to put the waste materials which are collected by the workers of SLRM (Solid, Liquid Resource Management) of KMB on a daily basis from every ward. She also called upon all to extend their support to KMB in cleaning Kokrajhar town to ensure the success of Clean and Green Kokrajhar Mission.
