SILCHAR: The much touted 'operation all out' launched by Assam Police against the Burmese supari (betel nut) syndicate took an interesting twist as crime branch arrested the 'kingpin' of the racket Abub Mazumder from Silchar central jail. A team of crime branch sleuths arrived at the central jail and arrested Abub, who was earlier nabbed by Dholai police. After routine health check up, Abub was taken to Guwahati by the crime branch.

Abub Mazumder, was absconding since the operation was initiated by Cachar police. Three separate cases were registered against Abub, a resident of Silchar town, in Silchar Sadar, Dholai PS and crime branch. Abub was granted bail by Gauhati High Court in the case registered with Silchar PS. On March 10, Abub resurfaced at Silchar PS with the bail paper only to be arrested by Dholai police in another case. He was subsequently sent to judicial custody.

The operation almost completed the circle with the arrest of Abub as other big players like Dipankar Deb, Anjan Paul, Altaf Hussain, Kartik Paul, Jakir Hussain were already in the custody of the crime branch. The other big player Chhabi Paul was yet to be apprehended.
