Sivasagar: On Wednesday, the Assam police and the Indian army launched a joint operation raided the recruitment module of the ULFA-I. This incident took place in the Namtola area in the district of Sivasagar, Assam.

The Assam police have arrested 7 youths in connection to this case.

A statement issued by the Indian army stated, "Based on specific input of recruitment being carried out by ULFA in Assam, in a well planned and coordinated operation, the Joypur Battalion under Spear Corps along with Sonari Police busted a recruitment module on 29 Sep 21."

The Indian army also informed that one of the people in the group was a cadre who had previously surrendered in 2016. In addition, a cadre who had tried to join the group a few years ago was also present.

The statement also said, "All the apprehended individuals confessed to having been recruited by handlers of ULFA I. The operation breaks the myth of the Unilateral ceasefire announced by ULFA I."

The local police have taken custody of the seven arrested youth for further investigation and legal action.

This news was shared by the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Defence, Tezpur, on their official Twitter handle. The tweet read, "On input of #Recruitment carried out by #ULFA, #Joypur Bn of #RedShieldDivision @Spearcorps with @assampolice busted a recruitment module in an ops leading to arrest of seven youth in #Namtola. The group was on way to #ULFATrainingCamp across #Myanmar border."
