HAILAKANDI: In a concerning incident, Assam police apprehended 27-year-old Papul Alom Barbhuiya in Hailakandi district after a video surfaced on social media showing him lying between railway tracks as a train approached. The arrest occurred on Tuesday, following the alarming 31-second clip that Barbhuiya shared on Facebook earlier in the week.
The video, which was highly unsafe, showed Barbhuiya positioning himself dangerously close to the tracks while recording the approaching train. While the video's authenticity has not yet been confirmed, it led to instant police action because of its unsafe implications.
Barbhuiya, who describes himself as a video game programmer and is reportedly based in Bengaluru, added to the controversy by posting a follow-up video the day after the initial clip. In this subsequent post, he claimed that the original video had been manipulated, asserting that the segment showing the train passing over him was sourced from the internet. He also cautioned viewers against attempting similar hazardous stunts.
After his arrest, Barbhuiya was presented before a court, where he was later released on bail. The authorities have assured that an extensive investigation of the incident is in progress as they aim to address the potential danger posed by such irresponsible action on social media sites.
