Guwahati: In a major development, Tinsukia police with the help of Digboi police busted an alleged sex racket running from a hotel cum restaurant named 'Digboi Tourist Lodge'.

The police also apprehended seven persons for their alleged involvement in the sex racket while 7 young girls who reportedly are of 14 to 24 years were rescued.

The arrested persons have been identified as Vijay Shankar Agarwal of Konsa (Arunachal Pradesh), Amsar Ali of Ledu (Assam), Adab Ansari of Margherita (Assam), Arif Shah of Ledu, Jalaluddin Talukdar of Konsa Upper Market.

As per reports, it is being said that following the complaint of a 15-year-old girl's father, the Tinsukia police started an investigation and also deployed sources, and eventually, it managed to establish contact with the girl.

The girl guided Tinsukia police to a lodge in Digboi which resulted in the arrest of the owner of the Digboi tourist lodge, Pankaj Barua.

During the raid, by both Tinsukia Police and Digboi Police, five persons were nabbed, and a hotel employee and police also recovered seven young girls, including four minors, from various rooms of the hotel.

Notably, on March 27, Delhi Police too busted a sex racket operating in the national capital and apprehended four persons, including three women, in connection with the case.

As per the police, information was received by the Special Staff in Shahdara regarding a prostitution racket being run from a flat at the Dilshad Garden Colony.

"Subsequently, a police team was constituted and a decoy customer was sent to the said flat," Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), R. Sathiya Sundaram, said.

The decoy customer, who was Rajkumar, a police constable, met a person named Sudhir and asked him to arrange girls for him.

"Sudhir then took him inside the flat and introduced him to a woman, who assured to arrange girls for him," the official said.

Following this, two girls aged 23 and 25 were sent to the undercover cop, who was then charged Rs 1,500.

The constable then signaled to the police team by giving a missed call, which conducted a raid at the flat and apprehended four persons from the spot.

"Further investigation is underway," the officer added.
