GUWAHATI: Assam Police have busted a major interstate vehicle theft racket, arresting 11 individuals. The gang from Manipur was notorious for swiftly stealing and smuggling high-end motorcycles and cars, with reports stating they could steal a bike in just 45 seconds.

The police recovered 13 stolen motorcycles, including 12 Royal Enfield bikes, and three stolen cars-two Mahindra Thar SUVs and a Mahindra Scorpio. The investigation showed that the gang used commercial buses to take the stolen bikes to Manipur, proving how well-planned their operations were.

The police made a big breakthrough by arresting Inamul Hussain from Goalpara, who helped in transferring stolen bikes to a Manipur-based network. They also caught two others involved in moving the stolen vehicles, dealing a major blow to the gang’s operations.

The gang operated by flying into Guwahati and setting up temporary bases for four to five days to execute their thefts. Notably, a young woman was identified as part of the syndicate, highlighting its diverse composition. Police have intensified efforts to track down the remaining associates and curb the growing problem of interstate vehicle theft.

Meanwhile, earlier this week, Nagaon Police conducted a crackdown on various criminal activities in the area. As part of this drive, they successfully busted a bike-theft racket.

According to sources, the police found three stolen bikes and arrested four people connected to the theft. The arrested individuals are Hobibur Rahman from Kenduguri, Nagaon, Suleman Ali from Hujgaon, and Narjul Islam and Makshidul Islam from Chatian.
