Assam Police observes International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in State

Tinsukia/Sarupathar: Alike the other parts of the world, Assam police today conducted an awareness programme on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in the state on the occasion of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

The programmes were conducted to create awareness about the hazards of drug abuse among citizens especially the young school and college going students.

It is to be noted that Sarupathar Police and the Sarupathar College jointly took out an awareness rally, along with more than 1000 college students on Wednesday.

Similarly, in Tinsukia, Assam police conducted an awareness programme on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at the Tinsukia College.

Tinsukia District Deputy Superintendent of Police, Bitupan Chetia, Additional Superintendent of Police Asif Ahmed, Tinsukia District Journalist Association, President Dr Rishi Das, Tinsukia College Principal Rana Changmai and other dignitaries were present at today’s programme.

In Charaideo District, a public meeting was conducted at the office of the District Police Superintendent of Police on the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Later, Sonari College students along with local artists took out an awareness rally on Drug Abuse. They also conducted two street plays on the roadside of Charaideo District.

Assam Police along with CID earlier conducted an Awareness programme on Drug Abuse at B. Barooah College in Guwahati.

Speaking at the occasion, Commissioner of Police, Deepak Kumar said that Assam Police has launched a campaign against ‘Drug Abuse’ in the state. “It has come to light that various college and school going students in the Guwahati city and other parts of the state are being targeted by the drug peddlers, hence, the department had decided to start an awareness campaign on the matter where we will highlight the ill-effects of drugs and help them to overcome the cause,” said Commissioner of Police Deepak Kumar.

Assam police department also shared their Whatsapp Helpline number: 9132699735 where anyone can share their complaints on any crime related offence and other objectionable matters.
