One of the prime accused of the kidnapping case Raj Babu Singh tried to flee from police custody, due to which he was shot in the leg. He was then taken to Morigaon's Civil Hospital for treatment.

With their involvement in an abduction case, two Assam Police personnel have once again tarnished the department's image. The Crime Branch and Latasil Police are in disarray after rescuing kidnapped businessman Ajit Das from a shack in Morigaon's Ghogua Hills on Sunday night. 

During the rescue operation, two Assam Police officers and a local from Ghogua Hills were apprehended in connection with the kidnapping.

The arrested culprits are Fancy Bazar Outpost Constable Raj Babu Singh, Jagiroad Home Guard PS Suraj Pator, and local resident Maneswar Das. In connection to this case, Jiten Bailung, personnel of the Forest Guard Battalion was also arrested on Monday.

According to a statement released by IPS GP Singh serving as the Special DGP of the Assam Police, one of the prime accused Raj Babu Singh tried to flee from police custody, due to which he was shot in the leg. He was then taken to Morigaon's Civil Hospital for treatment. Two others, namely Sanju Bordoloi and Satya Bordoloi were also arrested by the police for their involvement with this kidnapping case. 

"Reference kidnapping of one Ajit Dass from Guwahati- Accused Raj Babu Singh tried to escape from custody while police was going up to Gheguwa hill in Morigaon district for follow up investigation. Police used reasonable force to prevent him from escaping in which he received one bullet injury on his leg. He has been brought to Civil hospital, Morigaon. Two accused persons Sanju Bordoloi and Satya Bordoloi have also been arrested," twitted IPS GP Singh. 

According to a police source, the mastermind of the kidnapping is Singh Siddhu, who is now on the run. According to the source, the kidnappers wanted Rs 20 lakh in ransom from Das' family. 

On June 23, Das was abducted from his home in the Kalibari neighborhood near Guwahati Railway Station by a group of four people. In this respect, his family members filed a case (217/21 U/S 448/365/34 IPC) at the Latasil Police Station.
