
Guwahati: Assam police seized over 2,300 bottles of banned cough syrup and 18 kilogram of Yaba tablets in a raid that was conducted in a godown in Guwahati's Azara.
As per reports, the godown, which operated as a courier service on the outside, was discovered to be a smuggling hub. The godown is reported to be located near GIMT university. The contraband was received from Patna and was bound for Shillong, Meghalaya.
Assam Police has taken one Biplab Mazumder in custody who works as the operational manager of the courier service.
On January 10, Assam Rifles and Mizoram’s Special Narcotics CID apprehended three individuals and seized heroin worth Rs 9.51 lakh in Aizawl.
The arrested individuals were identified as Ngurthanzami (29) of New Champhai, Bikash Gharti (24) of Zemabawk S.A Veng, and Lalramthara (37) of Tuikual South, all residents of Mizoram.
The operation, conducted in the general area of Zemabawk S.A Veng, was based on specific intelligence. Authorities recovered 13.590 grams of Heroin No. 4 concealed in transparent white polythene.
The suspects, along with the contraband, were handed over to the Special Narcotics CID, Aizawl, for further investigation.
Separately, Assam Rifles, along with Tripura Forest Service and local police, destroyed 16.2 hectares of cannabis plantation in the Boxanagar Forest Range, Sonamura, Tripura.
The operation eradicated 16,500 cannabis plants worth Rs 70 lakh, highlighting ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and cultivation in the region.
