GUWAHATI: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Cell has recovered one handgun, one air gun, and 10 rounds of .22 ammunition during a search operation at the arrested Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) chief engineer Indrajit Bora's home in Games Village in Guwahati.

The sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption have taken immediate possession of the weapons and ammo. The anti-corruption squad officials had earlier discovered a significant quantity of cash during a thorough investigation of Bora's home.

Significantly, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation's (GMC) head engineer was detained for soliciting and receiving bribes.

On Wednesday, a team of authorities from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Cell caught the chief engineer, Indrajit Bora, red-handed and took him into custody. Sources claim that Bora was detained after he accepted 4,000 rupees from the complainant to release his security deposit.

A contractor has been identified as the defendant.

“ A team of @DIR_VAC_ASSAM trapped red handed and apprehended Sh Indrajit Bora, Chief Engineer, O/O Guwahati Municipal Corp. immediately after he accepted demanded bribe from the complainant for releasing his security deposit.” wrote the ADGP of the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption cell of Assam informing of this via twitter.

A Lat Mandal was detained last week in Hajo, Assam, on suspicion of receiving a bribe. At the office of the Hajo Revenue Circle officer, a team from the anti-corruption cell caught the Lat Mandal red-handed and imprisoned him.

Tankeswar Nath has been recognized as the Lat Manadal who was apprehended. He was detained as he accepted a Rs 4,000 bribe from the complainant.

Assam police detained one person on allegations of cyber fraud in the Bongaigaon district on March 21 as part of a successful crackdown on the state's escalating number of cyberfraud cases.

Golam Murtaza, the arrested individual, is a Malda, West Bengal, inhabitant. Police conducted a search and seized a mobile phone, cash, and more than 21 ATM cards from different banks.

Statewide police continue to tighten up on cybercriminals. A case has been filed against the person who was arrested, and more investigation is ongoing to find out whether there are any other connections to the case.
