Assam Police Rescues Three Missing Children from Panikhaiti

Guwahati: In some prompt action by Assam Police, the three children who had gone missing from Mayong of Morigaon district on Friday (Jun 11) night have been rescued from Panikhaiti, Assam Police DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta informed just a while back.

The DGP said that he himself was at Mayong, the place from where the children had gone missing and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarm was personally monitoring the case.

The three children - Dimpimoni Saikia, Sumi Saikia and Nayan Saikia are residents of Ouguri village in Mayong. A missing persons case was registered at the Mayong police station after their parents found them missing.

Interestingly, the three children had left a note requesting their parents not to look for them and that they left as they had no other option.

More information about why they had eloped or were they lured by someone is awaited.

According to Assam government data, 12 children has gone missing in May, these are the number of reported cases. In 2020, as many as 142 children had gone missing. Of the 3,927 children who had gone missing, only 1,307 have been found.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the efforts of Assam Police after they rescued four girls from Paneri in Udalguri district suspected to have been victims of human trafficking. The girls were rescued from Baihata area of the state. One person named Gyas Ali, 32 years old has been arrested as he is suspected to have played a role in trafficking the girls. Police are searching for another person said to be involved in the case.

Marking World Day Against Child Labour, the CM and the Assam Police also took a pledge to end child labour in the state. The Assam Police in its tweet stated that any form of child labour is a crime and people should raise their voice against it.
