Assam: Police Seize Heroin Worth Rs 2 Crore In Mankachar; Drug Dealer Arrested

In a major operation in Assam's Mankachar, police seized heroin worth Rs 2 crore and arrested a drug dealer. The heroin was sourced from Manipur, efforts are underway to capture an escaped suspect.

MANKACHAR: In a major anti-drug operation, police seized heroin worth Rs 2 crore in Assam's Mankachar town and arrested a drug dealer.

The heroin, reportedly sourced from Manipur, was found stored in the house of Noor Islam. Acting on a tip-off, the joint operation was led by Additional Superintendent of Police Pratap Das, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ansal Sharma, Mankachar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Deepak Bargayari, and Kharuabandha Police Station In-Charge Gitartha Chaudhary.

During the raid, a woman named Mulukjan Nessa was arrested, but Noor Islam escaped. The police are still searching for him and working to break up the drug network.

Earlier, Laharighat Police Station carried out a raid in Amaraguri and found 11.26 grams of suspected heroin. The arrested people were identified as Mustafa Ahmed, Mirajul Ali, and Jushnara Begum.

Meanwhile, a team of Basistha police personnel under East Guwahati Police District arrested a drug peddler, Manash Jyoti Medhi of Kerakuchi from Beharbari. The police recovered 12 vials of heroin weighing 16.17 grams. In another incident, Pan Bazar police arrested a drug peddler, Sahidul Islam, alias Babu, of Bilasipara. The police seized 22 vials of heroin weighing 29.43 grams from his possession.

Similarly, Tinsukia police succeeded in their mission against drug smuggling by arresting two smugglers and a local peddler on Friday. An operation led to the seizure of a large consignment of heroin that had been smuggled from Nagaland into Assam.
