Assam Police Seize Rs. 2.46 Crore Worth Of Drugs In Lumding, Two Arrested

Lumding Police have seized over 49,000 narcotic tablets worth Rs. 2.46 crore during an operation on Diphu Road. Two men were arrested in connection with the drug trafficking network.

LUMDING: In a major crackdown against drug trafficking, Lumding Police have seized a massive amount of narcotic tablets during an operation on Diphu Road. Acting on intelligence inputs, the police intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number WB 74 AW 0889 and discovered 49,248 narcotic tablets concealed inside. 

The drugs confiscated are estimated to be valued at around Rs. 2.46 crore, making this one of the biggest anti-drug operations in recent times. Two men, Bhaskar Sarkar and Yasin Ali, both from Nagaon, were arrested along with the drugs.

According to the official, this seizure has busted a major drug network in the area. Investigations are still ongoing to find more connections and people involved in the illegal trade.

Meanwhile, earlier last month, acting on credible intelligence, an East Guwahati Police Department team from Jorabat OP of Basistha PS had apprehended 2 drug peddlers. The arrested individuals had been identified as Libion Boro (18) and Julius Majaw (23), both originating from Byrnihat, at Jorabat Crossing.

The police authorities had seized 17 vials of heroin, weighing 22.7 gms, and 2 mobile phones from their possession.

Similarly, in a special anti-narcotics operation, South Salmara Mankachar police had arrested a drug peddler and seized drugs from his possession during a raid in Kharuabandha OP in Assam’s South Salmara Mankachar district.
