Guwahati: Assam Police on Sunday has delivered the biggest blow yet to the drug mafias in the state after seizing 5 kilos of quality heroin at the Assam-Nagaland border, Director General of Police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta announced on Twitter.

The banned drugs were seized by a police unit of Karbi Anglong district near the Nagaland border. Astoundingly, the market value of the "quality heroin" is expected to be a whopping Rs. 25 crores.

The police have taken Ismail Ali, a resident of Jogighopa village in Bongaigaon district into its custody and further investigations are underway.

"The WAR ON DRUGS is on and assam police just delivered the biggest blow yet to the drug mafias The karbi anglong police last night seized a whopping 5KGs of quality Heroin at Assam Nagaland border. Kdos to the team!," Assam's Director General of Police (DGP), Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta wrote in a Twitter post on Monday (September 28).

"The market value of the 5.05KG of heroin recovered is said to be Rs.25 Crores! One Ismail Ali , S/o Akabor Ali under Jogighopa PS has been taken into custody. This op. is part of ongoing drive against drugs declared by DGP Assam on 26 Jun'20," Mahanta wrote in a subsequent tweet.
