MORAN: A road accident claimed the life of a sub-inspector (SI) of the Assam Police Radio Organisation (APRO) in Moran, Dibrugarh. While out on a morning stroll with a companion, Sunil Dihingia was struck by a motorbike bearing registration number AS 06 AL 7736 travelling towards Sivasagar.

After suffering fatal injuries to his head, SI Dihingia, who was posted at the Sepon Police Out Post, passed away on the spot.

According to reports, SI Dihingia was killed in front of Prajapoti Bibah Bhawan, next to the Moran SDC office, after a speeding bike struck him from behind when he was out on his usual morning walk. SI Dihingia had just been transferred to Sepon from the Moran Police Station.

The driver, Om Bibhuti Baruah, the motorcycle's pillion rider, Jintu Murari and another individual identified as Mukhen Gogoi were also hurt in the collision. Om Bibhuti Baruah, a Moran Junior College student, was taken into custody by the police and sent to a hospital.

The Moranhat Police Station also confiscated the Yamaha sports bike that was involved in the unfortunate incident. Following its enlargement, the Moran-Sepon route has had a number of traffic incidents. On the stretch with insufficient pedestrian and animal protection, cars are frequently observed speeding, which increases the possibility of collisions.

According to a recent revelation by DGP GP Singh, Assam has seen a significant drop in the number of fatalities in traffic accidents. Recent statistics show that the number of fatalities in the state decreased by 24.48% in November when compared to the same month the previous year. Furthermore, compared to the same period last year, Assam experienced a total decrease in fatalities of 14.28% from January to November.
