Guwahati: Assam Police on Sunday brought back the three suspected operatives of the terrorist outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from Tripura.

The three suspected JMB operatives were taken into custody by the Assam Police in Tripura on Saturday, 16 April. This came after the Assam police were granted transit remand by the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) of Sonamura for the three accused.

As per reports, the Sonamura CJM in Tripura granted the transit remand after reviewing the case diary of the Assam police in connection with a case registered against the trio at Jogighopa police station in Bongaigaon district of Assam.

The Assam police were directed by the Sonamura CJM court in Tripura to produce the three suspected JMB operatives before the Abhayapuri sub-divisional judicial magistrate in the Bongaigaon district of Assam on Monday, 18 April.

The three suspected JMB operatives go by the name of Imran Hossain (24), who happens to be an Imam in a mosque in Tripura, Abul Kashem (33), who works as a teacher and Hamid Ali (33), a farmer.

Earlier, the Tripura Police arrested the trio on April 3 based on inputs from the Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau (SIB).

The three suspected operatives of the radical organization were booked under several non-bailable sections – 120B, 121, 124a of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 13(2), 18, 18b, 38 and 39 of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

However, the trio was granted bail by a local court in Tripura on April 8 on the grounds that the police were unable to present any evidence to justify the charges slapped against them under IPC and UAPA.

All three of them were arrested by a team of Assam Police in a connection with a case registered at a police station in the Bongaigaon district of the state.

Meanwhile, the transit remand was initially denied to the Assam Police by the court and they asked them to present the case diary and evidence related to the case for which the trio got arrested.

The Sonamura CJP court in Tripura heard submissions of both the Assam police and the defence counsel on Saturday, 16 April after which they granted transit remand to the Assam police for the three suspected JMB operatives.
