GUWAHATI: A substantial cache of firearms and ammunition was found by a unit of Karbi Anglong Police near Assam's Diphu on Friday.

The firearms and ammunition were reportedly recovered in the Dhansiri Reserve Forest, which is close to the Elephant Camp area.

Officials claim that they discovered up to two grenades, an AK-47 magazine, and 69 rounds of live ammunition.

Additionally discovered in the seizure were three pistol magazines and 12 SLRR rifle ammunition.

According to the officials who spoke with the media, the ammunition and weapons discovered are thought to have belonged to the DNLT, a prohibited Dimasa rebel organization.

In a different instance which happened a few months back, the Assam police had recovered a sizable haul of weapons and ammunition in the Karbi Anglong region of southern Assam, close to Diphu.

The police said that among the items seized are hand grenades, AK-47 magazines, explosives, weapons, and pistols. Following the confrontation with Jackson SS, Chairman of the KDLF, in December 2021, the Diphu Police had been looking for these weapons and ammo.
