Assam Police's Sishu Mitra Programme wins the Governance Now-India Police Award 2020

Capacity Building Award for Assam Police's Sishu Mitra Programme

Guwahati: A novel child-friendly initiative launched last year by Assam Police - Sishu Mitra programme bagged the 'Capacity Building Award' of Governance Now-India Police Awards 2020.

Assam Police in collaboration with UNICEF India and a non-governmental organisation based in Assam, UTSAH, launched the programme in August 2019, with the aim to promote child-friendly policing in the state.

Harmeet Singh, Assam Additional Director General of Police received the award virtually due to the ongoing pandemic.

The programme was launched with an objective to bridge gaps between police and children, and also enhance the capacities of police officers to respond to child-related cases more effectively and efficiently. This unique initiative of Assam Police is first-of-its-kind in the country.

The award has been instituted by Governance Now and Adhikari Brothers Enterprise with a goal to recognise the innovative programmes undertaken by the India Police in the country.
