Silchar: With Assam Assembly Elections 2021 coming close, Assam and Meghalaya has decided to work jointly along with all departmental heads to check illegal cash flow, liquor and other detrimental elements which may create problem during the time leading to the polls.

In pursuance of Election Commission guidelines, an inter-state meeting was held between Deputy Commissioner Cachar Keerthi Jalli IAS and Deputy Commissioner East Jayantia Hills, E.Kharmalki IAS at Umkiang, Meghalaya on Friday. DIG Southern range Dilip Kumar Dey, Superintendent of Police, Cachar, Bhanwar Lal Mina, Superintendent of Police, East Jayantia Hills, Deepak Palecha, Circle officer, Katigorah, Pranjit Deb, Superintendent of Taxes, Cachar, Debojit Ghosh, Superintendent of Excise, Ram Kanu Kathar, District Transport Officer, Cachar, Angshuman Biswas, Assistant Commissioner of Taxes, Cachar, Papori Niog, Assistant Inspector of Taxes, Partha Chakraborty were present at the meeting.

In the meeting the Meghalaya administration was requested to curb drug smuggling. Curb on movement of illegal money and light motor vehicles was also included in the discussion so that no one can cross the border illegally and enter Cachar.

The Meghalaya administration said that they will be vigilant to curb drug smuggling and ensure that no one can smuggle cash across the border into Assam.

More such meetings would be held in the coming days between district officials of Assam and other neighbouring states like Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland and Bangladesh as well.
