PATHSALA: Amid the African swine fever outbreak, the district administration of Bajali has imposed a ban on the sale, movement, and slaughter of pigs in the district. As part of immediate containment measures, the veterinary department culled several pigs to prevent the spread of the highly contagious disease.
The outbreak was confirmed after laboratory tests detected the disease in pigs exhibiting unusual symptoms and sudden deaths. The affected area has since been declared a containment zone under official animal health protocols.
“The authorities responded swiftly after receiving reports of abnormal pig deaths. We promptly informed the veterinary department, and the culling operation was essential to contain the infection,” said an official from the district administration.
To ensure effective disease control, Section 163 has been invoked, enabling the enforcement of emergency restrictions during animal health crises.
Officials clarified that while African Swine Fever poses no threat to humans, it is fatal to pigs and can devastate the pork industry if not contained. Farmers have been advised to report any unusual pig illnesses immediately and to adhere strictly to guidelines issued by veterinary authorities.
