SIVASAGAR: Pranabjyoti Saikia, an assistant teacher at No. 26 Banmukh Gohain Gaon Primary School under the Demow Education Block in Sivasagar, breathed his last late Saturday night at Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). At the age of approximately 46, Saikia succumbed to liver cirrhosis after battling the illness for some time.
Saikia’s untimely demise has left many in mourning. He was not only a dedicated teacher but also a leader who played a key role in securing the regularization of jobs for many primary school teachers who were deprived of salaries for years. His efforts, particularly in advocating for the rights of teachers in Sivasagar, earned him widespread respect.
At the time of his passing, Saikia leaves behind his wife, a son, a daughter, a brother, a sister-in-law, and other close family members. His death has deeply saddened the students of his school, who have expressed their grief and paid their final tributes to their beloved teacher.
The last rites of Pranabjyoti Saikia were performed at the public crematorium in Banmukh Chutia Gaon in the presence of numerous admirers and well-wishers on Sunday.
