

JORHAT: Fields of Mohbandar Eraltoli in Jorhat are abuzz with activity as the preparations for the 94th annual session of the Srimanta Sankardev Sangha is nearing completion. It is scheduled from February 6 to 9 and is going to attract an estimated 3 to 3.5 million devotees, which will be one of the biggest congregations in the area.
The event will be held on 1,200 bighas of land, where more than 90% of the events have already been finalized. Such large pavilions are being constructed primarily from around 72,000 bamboos available at Karbi Anglong, while more than 9,000 tin sheets are being used in the process and nearly over 200 workers have been involved in the construction work for nearly two months.
Among the main attractions of the event is a central service camp, the largest of its kind, measuring 60 feet by 30 feet and designed to house 10,000 individuals. A spacious dining hall with the same capacity, along with over 200 cooking areas, has also been established to cater to the needs of the participants. To further support the gathering, 200 representative camps have been set up to accommodate nearly 100,000 devotees.
Around 800 shops will be used for exhibitions, book fairs, and trade fairs. A wide range of products will be available, such as mythological texts and traditional crafts. Prominent personalities like the Governor of Assam and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma are likely to attend the main assembly.
