Assam Prepared for COVID-19: Kesab Mahanta

GUWAHATI: Kesab Mahanta, the minister for health and family welfare for the Government of Assam has mentioned that Assam is fully prepared to tackle any problem that might arise because of a possible COVID-19 outbreak in the state.

As of now, the state of Assam has now published any regulations or standard operating procedures for the citizens. The number of infections in the state remains to be zero as per the report published by the National Health Mission, Assam. The state is following all guidelines issued by the central government to prevent any outbreak. As per the guidelines, random testing is being conducted for travellers coming to the Guwahati International Airport from foreign destinations. Anyone coming in with the symptoms of COVID-19 is also tested for the infection. As of now, no positive cases have been recorded, but if that happens, samples will be sent for genome testing.

"We are now following the guidelines issued by the central government. We have conducted mock drills across the state and our hospitals have 8,000 oxygen beds and 1200 ICUs. Our doctors at government hospitals are fully prepared to deal with any situation. As of now, there is no separate SOP for Covid in the state. We will discuss it with the chief minister and will follow the central government's instructions," mentioned Kesab Mahanta according to a report.

Vaccination campaigns are still conducted by the health department across multiple districts of the state. While the first and second doses of the vaccine have been taken by a large number of people, very few have opted for the precautionary 3rd dose.

Amidst fears of COVID-19 spreading from China to other countries of the world, several nations have decided to reintroduce COVID protocols. India is one of those countries and has made covid negative certificates compulsory for all travellers coming to the country from China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Thailand from January 1 next year.
