SILCHAR: A tragic road accident occurred in the Binnakandi Part 1 area of the Fulertal-Sonai PWD Road under the Lakhipur Assembly constituency in Assam's Cachar district, resulting in the death of a 35-year-old man.

The victim, Lutru Bauri, a resident of the Doctor Bagan area of Binnakandi Gaon Panchayat in Cachar district, was killed on the spot after being struck by a dumper truck bearing registration number MZ 01 N 6275.

The accident took place while Lutru was sitting by the roadside fixing a spade. A dumper truck lost control after hitting a road construction machine and struck Bauri, killing him instantly before crashing into a nearby house.

Following the incident, locals blocked the road with the deceased's body, causing a traffic jam with hundreds of vehicles stranded on both sides. The situation remains tense as protests continue.

Meanwhile, a massive protest took place on Saturday morning on National Highway 27 in Jalukbari, Guwahati, following a fatal road accident involving a school bus last Friday. The accident led to the death of Prafulla Das and left three students injured.

Local residents, outraged by the incident, blocked the highway, demanding justice and accountability from the authorities. They criticized the administration and traffic police for failing to ensure road safety. The protest caused severe traffic congestion, disrupting transport services, and prompting authorities to deploy forces to control the situation.
