JAMUGURIHAT: A public meeting convened by the Non-Bodo Surakhya Samiti was held in the auditorium of Diplonga ME School located at Nonkey Chengamari to the north of Sootea on Thursday with Arun Bordoloi, President of Non-Bodo Suraksha Samiti, in the chair. The public meeting was attended by Biswanath MLA Promod Borthakur, Akasdeep Kakaty, Circle Officer, Naduar revenue circle, along with eminent personalities of the greater area and representatives of various organizations.

At the very outset of the public meeting, Naduar MLA Padma Hazarika addressed the public gathering over phone and assured that the state government will provide justice to the people. He also stated that the names of those who voted in the recently-concluded Panchayat election won’t be included in BTR. He assured that he had already drawn the attention of the Chief Minister in this matter.

A draft voter’s list of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) which was published including the voters of 23 non-Bodo villages of the northern part of Sootea wherein less than 5 Bodo voters existed evoked mixed response.

The Non-Bodo Surakhya Samiti has already submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, District Commissioner of Biswanath, the circle officer of Naduar revenue circle. All the proceedings of the public meeting were conducted by Biswajit Sut.
