Guwahati: Purabi Dairy Distributor Succumbs To Injuries After Shooting Incident

GUWAHATI: In a shocking development, a distributor of Purabi Dairy products in Guwahati was killed during a robbery in the Panjabari area of the city on Monday, after miscreants fired upon him.  .

The deceased, identified as 58-year-old Ranjit Bora, was shot by the criminals in broad daylight, at around 12 noon. He later succumbed to his injuries. 

Bora owned a dairy distribution unit with a network of sellers in Kahilipara and Ganeshguri areas of the city. He was reportedly on his way to the bank when the criminals fired at him and snatched the money he was carrying. The victim's partner said he was carrying Rs 2.5 lakh in a bag which was snatched. The incident took place while he was on his way to a bank for depositing the cash.

As per officials at the Dispur Police Station, Ranjit Bora was fired at in the city's Panjabari area. He was immediately rushed to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for treatment. A team of three doctors treating him declared him as brought dead.

The victim succumbed to his injuries at 12.44 PM.

West Assam Milk Producer's Cooperative Union Limited (Purabi Dairy) issued a statement on the incident on Monday that led to the demise of Shri Ranjit Bora, a milk and milk products distributor of WAMUL (Purabi Dairy)

The statement said, "Shri Ranjit Bora, a permanent resident of Kahilipara, Guwahati, was associated with West Assam Milk Producer's Cooperative Union Limited (Purabi Dairy) as its distributor of milk and milk products since last 12 years. He was one of the established distributors of Purabi Dairy commanding a network of retailers in Kahilipara and Ganeshguri areas of Guwahati city. He was aged around 62 years at the time of his death.

It was understood that as a part of his routine business activity, today (21.11.2022) Shri Ranjit Bora went to deposit his sales proceeds in ICICI Bank located in front of the premises of Purabi Dairy. It was learnt that he went to the Bank in his car at around 12.00 PM when unidentified assailants shot him while he was inside his car. Subsequently, the police came and took him to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) where he was declared dead.

The entire Purabi Dairy family is in a state of shock in view of this horrific incident. The heartfelt condolences of Purabi Dairy are hereby extended to the members of the bereaved family.

We pray to The Almighty to provide grace and solace to the departed soul of Shri Ranjit Bora for being rested in eternal peace".

Meanwhile, Police Commissioner Harmeet Singh says they have leads. 

An investigation is on to trace the culprits.
