SILCHAR: Purple Fest was successfully organized at Silchar with an aim to provide a platform for Divyang entrepreneurs and artisans while celebrating the talents and abilities of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs).
The Purple Fest, held at the DSA Ground, was organized under the joint efforts of CRC Guwahati, functioning under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment of the Union Government, along with the district administration and SAKSHAM South Assam.
Presided over by Additional District Commissioner Kimchim Lhangum, the event witnessed an impressive gathering of dignitaries including Rajive Mohan Pant, Vice-Chancellor of Assam University Silchar. Among the distinguished attendees were Divyang Representative Er Mayank Shekhar, PhD Scholar from NIT Silchar, Uday Shankar Goswami, Chairman of Divyang Seva Kendra, Prof M Gangabhushan, NSS Coordinator of Assam University, and Assistant Commissioner-cum-In Charge District Social Welfare Officer Anjali Kumari.
Dr PK Lenka, Director of CRC Guwahati, in his welcome address, said that the purpose of organizing the Purple Fair was to empower Divyang entrepreneurs and artisans by providing them with an inclusive platform.
Prof Rajive Mohan Pant shared the story of Rudrani Das, a shining example of resilience among Divyang individuals. He highlighted the urgent need for more opportunities that allow such hidden talents to thrive.
With an overwhelming participation of around 150 Divyangjans and their families, the event brimmed with enthusiasm. The exhibition stalls displayed a diverse range of handcrafted products by PwD entrepreneurs, reflecting their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit. A key highlight of the fair was the cultural segment, where participants enthralled the audience with captivating performances in dance, music, and recitations. The sporting spirit was equally vibrant, with events such as the 100m race, wheelchair race, cricket, chess, art competition, and drawing competition showing the zeal and excitement among the participants.
61 individuals took active roles in the cultural performances and exhibitions. Participants from Hailakandi, Sribhumi, and various parts of Cachar joined hands in making the event a melting pot of talent and diversity.
