DHEKIAJULI: In a heartfelt tribute to Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha, one of Assam’s most iconic cultural figures, Rabha Divas was observed on Friday with a series of solemn and culturally rich programmes across Dhekiajuli. The day’s events were marked by reflective speeches, literary releases, symbolic gestures, and community engagement, all aimed at honouring the enduring legacy of the legendary artiste and freedom fighter.

The primary programme of the day was held under the joint initiative of the Sirajuli Branch of the Xahitya Xabha, the Sirajuli Branch of the Natya Sanmilan, and with the cooperation of Maila-ali Primary School. The morning session began with tributes and performances celebrating Rabha’s contributions to Assamese literature, music, theatre, and social consciousness.

The event was graced by Sujit Kataki, a noted litterateur from the Dhekiajuli co-district, who participated in his capacity as Secretary of the Sonitpur District Natya Sanmilan and Central Member of the Axam Xahitya Xabha. In his commemorative speech, Kataki eloquently highlighted the multifaceted genius of Bishnu Rabha, emphasizing the relevance of his cultural and social ideals in today’s world. He called upon the younger generation to draw inspiration from Rabha’s visionary life and work.

Adding further depth to the observance, a hand-drawn portrait of Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha was ceremonially presented to the newly-established office of the Dhekiajuli co-district. The portrait was respectfully handed over to Co-District Commissioner Dyutibha Bora, in a gesture symbolizing reverence and cultural homage. Esteemed journalist Kalpajyoti Nath was also present during the occasion, lending further gravity to the moment.

Along with the portrait, a formal letter was submitted on behalf of the local literary community, urging the administration to initiate art workshops, exhibitions, and cultural programmes to promote visual arts among students and young artistes. Commissioner Bora welcomed the proposal with warmth and assured her full support, expressing readiness to collaborate on future initiatives that uplift local talent and preserve Assam’s rich artistic heritage.

A literary highlight of the day was the release of the commemorative book ‘Surar Deul’ (Temple of Melody) by the Rupkonwar Xakha Xahitya Xabha, under the leadership of its President Padma Dhungana. Edited by the branch’s Publication Secretary Abdul Jalil, the book was unveiled at a public function held at Prajapati Higher Secondary School.

The book release was formally conducted by the MLA of Barchola, Ganesh Kumar Limbu, who praised the literary initiative and commended the Xabha’s dedication to preserving the cultural legacy of Bishnu Rabha through meaningful literary efforts. The event marked a significant milestone in the Xabha’s journey, particularly under its revitalized leadership in just the past five months.

Throughout the day, literary enthusiasts, students, artistes, and cultural activists gathered across Dhekiajuli to pay homage to a man whose work transcends time. Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha, poet, playwright, musician, painter, dancer, actor, and freedom fighter, remains an indelible force in Assam’s cultural and social history.

As Dhekiajuli observed this sacred occasion with soul and sincerity, one message resonated clearly: Kalaguru’s legacy lives on continuing to guide, inspire, and enrich the identity and aspirations of Assam’s people for generations to come.
