Assam: Raijor Dal Leader Kamal Kumar Medhi Switches Over To AAP Along With Five Others

Guwahati: Raijor Dal Vice President Kamal Kumar Medhi has jumped ship and switched over to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on May 2 along with five other members of the regional party.

Besides the members of the Raijor Dal, some Congress leaders have also deserted the Grand Old Party and joined AAP. It includes the likes of Congress's Manoj Dhanowar and Dwijen Gogoi who joined the AAP in the presence of its party National Secretary Pankaj Gupta.

Jitul Deka, Anurupa Dekaroja, Binoy Deka, Dipankar Kalita and Dibyajyoti Deka are the members who quit the Raijor Dal to join the AAP.

The newly inducted members will meet AAP supremo and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on May 2, at 7 pm.

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party is seeking to expand its footprints across India and is trying to provide a viable alternative to the declining Congress. Their recent landslide victory in the Punjab Assembly polls has provided a huge boost to their pan India aspirations.

It is no different in Assam as well with the party propelling towards strengthening its party base and is eyeing to replace the Congress as the principal opposition party in Assam. The party is riding high in confidence in the wake of the recent results of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation elections, where it managed to secure one ward.

Founded by activist turned politician Akhil Gogoi on 2 October, 2020, the Raijor Dal is an Indian political party based in the state of Assam.

The formation of the party was the culmination of more than 15 years of struggle of its parent mass organization Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti(KMSS) for land rights, farmers rights, ecological conservation and protection of lives and livelihoods of the working classes of Assam.

The party's stated political ideology is progressive sub-nationalism which encapsulates ideas of federalism, equal rights, self-reliance and scientific temper.
