DIBRUGARH: A massive rally titled ‘United Peace Rally’ was taken out in insurgency-infested Longding in Arunachal Pradesh on Friday.

The rally was taken out under the initiative of the Wancho Council in which all the members of community-based organizations of the Wancho community, like the Wancho Wangham Council, Longding District Students Union, ZPCs and ZPMs, Gaon Burahs, Market Welfare Association of Longding, Kanubari, Pongchau, Tissa, and Wakka, etc. took part.

Hundreds of people from various age categories took part in the rally carrying banners and placards in their hands, denouncing insurgency and demanding a halt to kidnappings, extortion, and killings by various militant outfits. The rally started from the Longding daily market and after traversing through the main thoroughfares of the town culminated at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office.

Representatives of the organizations held a discussion with DC Bekir Nyorak and demanded that the government and administration initiate steps to contain insurgency across the district. People also spoke out against insurgency, stating that they have become the scapegoat between the insurgents and security forces.

It might be mentioned that since 2018, there have been 90 cases of abduction of people by various militant outfits in Longding district alone despite AFSPA in force in the district.
