

MARIANI: Dumper trucks have been known to cause accidents from time to time, mainly because of rash driving on the roads. The most recent incident took place in the Mariani locality of the state on Thursday.
A dumper truck carrying sand hit a two-wheeler vehicle in the Mariyani region leading to the injury of one person. The incident took place on the morning of Thursday when a dumper truck bearing registration number AS 03 CC 3768 hit a two-wheeler. The person riding the two-wheeler, identified as Badal Basfor, was seriously injured during the accident. He was shifted to the Jorhat Medical College in a very critical condition. Mariani Police was able to apprehend and seize the sand-loaded dumper after the incident.
Local people have mentioned that a large number of dumper trucks move through the Mariani locality and they often engage in rash driving. They also mentioned that the local administration has completely failed to control them and now continues to turn a blind eye towards them even after numerous complaints from the people.
In the same Mariani region, an accident on the temporary bridge led to the death of one person and the injury of another on Wednesday. The incident occurred in the Seleghat locality of Mariani on the night of Wednesday. An RCC bridge in the Tengabari area was damaged around five months back so the locals were forced to construct a bamboo bridge to ensure that people could continue to cross the river. But on Wednesday night, a two-wheeler with two people onboard fell through the bridge into the ground below. The incident led to the immediate demise of one person while the other suffered severe injuries.
The person who died because of the incident was identified as Achau Bauri and the person who was injured was identified as Suren Das. He was shifted to a medical facility for better medical care.
