ASSAM: The Government of Assam has undertaken radical changes in the administration. Ravi Kota as the next Chief Secretary, succeeding Mr. Paban Kumar Borthkur who got a three-month extension in December 2023 with effect from 31 March. Assam-Meghalaya cadre 1993 batch IAS officer Dr. Ravi Kota brings a wealth of experience to his new role.

Apart from serving as the chief secretary, he will assume responsibility as additional chief secretary in the Department of Industry, Trade and Public Enterprises and will also retain additional oversight of the finance department. In addition, he has been posted as Officer of Special Duty (OSD) in the Office of the Chief Secretary of Assam.

Kota’s previous roles include additional principal secretary in the Home-Political Department, Passport and Prisons. His broad administrative experience spans areas such as food and agriculture, human resources, urban infrastructure and homeland security.

While Principal Secretary, Finance in Assam. Kota played a key role in steering the country’s economy through important reforms such as the postponement of the Planning Commission, demonetisation and implementation of GST as well as its strategic budget which included mobilize internal resources and seek external assistance from multilateral development aid.

His experience extends to the national level having served as Joint Secretary of the 15th Finance Commission, Ministry of Finance, Government of India. This project gave me a deeper understanding of finance in the States and Central Territories.

His international publication focuses on India and the US. economic relations and climate partnerships and heads the economic section of the Embassy of India in Washington Born on April 12, 1966 in Andhra Pradesh, Dr. Ravi Kota has shown his versatility by serving as Principal Resident Commissioner of Assam Bhavan in New Delhi. His multi-faceted experience makes him a key figure to guide the governance and economic landscape of Assam in the coming years.
