Guwahati: On Saturday, Assam's COVID-19 cases climbed up to 269. Moreover, at least 5 persons have lost their lives after testing positive for COVID-19.

The positivity rate that was recorded in the state on Saturday was 0.82 per cent. Also, the recovery rate in the state was reported to be 98.45 per cent.

It is to be mentioned that Assam saw a small surge in COVID-19 cases right after the Durga Puja celebrations which came to an end on Friday.

The Assam government had relaxed the COVID-19 restrictions in the state so that Durga Puja could be celebrated by following strict COVID-19 guidelines and protocols.

According to sources, the Health Department officials have decided to test the organizers of Puja pandals if the situation goes out of control. However, the health officials believe that the COVID-19 situation in the state is still in control as the positivity rate has not crossed 2%.

The health officials have given the credit of the state's low positivity rate to the pre-puja vaccination drive. They pointed out that even though the citizens violated the COVID-19 protocols and gathered in large numbers even during the curfew hours, the positivity rate is still comparatively low.

The health officials believed that if not for the COVID-19 vaccine, Assam would have witnessed thousands of COVID-19 cases amidst the festivities.
