
JOYSAGAR: ‘Sangeet Surya’ Dr Bhupen Hazarika was warmly remembered in Sivasagar on Monday on his 7th death anniversary. Many social-cultural organizations of Sivasagar town, Joysagar and Rudrasagar arranged various events to pay tribute to the Jajabor. The Sivasagar AASU, AJYCP, IPFS, NGO Khoj, Seujia Samaj Sangeet College and Binapani Sangeet School presented a cultural function to mark the day and also lit lamps in front of the portrait of Dr Bhupen Hazarika.
Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal attended the function arranged by the 5th Sivasagar Book Fair Celebration Committee in Boarding Field of the town in the evening and paid tribute to Dr Bhupen Hazarika. Jha in his speech said that the noble and humanitarian spirit of the music icon was the actual source of his creative art and music. Dr Jayashree Chaliha Agarwala and Dr. Deepali Saikia, educationists and social reformer of Sivasagar, were felicitated by the organizers of the book fair during the Bhupendra Swamaran function.
SARUPATHAR: Rich tributes were paid to Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika on his death anniversary on Monday. Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuba Parishad and people of Sarupathar paid floral tributes to the portrait of the music maestro at a programme held at Madhu Bivha Bhavan in Sarupathar under Dhansiri subdivision. Moreover, a function and art competition was arranged by AJYP where the Sudhakanta’s songs were performed by the school students and artistes. Dr. Hazarika was also remembered by the teachers and students of Sarupathar College and they lit an earthen lamp in front of the Sudhakanta’s portrait.
JORHAT: The seventh death anniversary of Dr Bhupen Hazarika was observed all throughout the district. An all-religion prayer meeting was held, followed by Bhupen Sangeet competition organized by Mukti Jujaro Sanmilan at Mukti Judha Bhavan. The bard’s death anniversary was observed at Jorhat Millennium Park, Theatre Hall, Artist Guild, Fine Art Society, Assam Agriculture University, Jorhat Engineering College, Jorhat Medical College and Hospital, CSIR-NEIST and other colleges of Jorhat.
Biswanath Chariali: The seventh death anniversary of Dr Bhupen Hazarika was observed by several organizations in Biswanath district along with the rest of the State with various programmes. Axam Xahitya Xabha Biswanath Chariali branch held the programmes with Kanaklata Neog in the chair. The programmes commenced with floral tributes paid by literary pensioner Indra Prasad Saikia while objectives were explained by Anjan Borah. Khitish Saikia, retired Associate Professor of Biswanath College, dwelt at length upon the life and works of the great maestro.
The anniversary was observed in Biswanath College under the aegis of AASU and the students’ union. Principal Mrinal Borah, Associate Professors Amar Jyoti Borthakur and Nipam Saikia spoke a few words on the occasion. Deshpran Lakhidhar Sharma Jatiya Vidyalaya also observed the day with the active participation of the students and teachers, presided over by social worker Jagat Borah. Around 15,000 people will sing Manuhe manuhar babe in eight languages in Tuesday’s AASU programme to be held at Dirring Pathar in which AASU central leaders will be present.
TANGLA: Like previous years, the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) Tangla Anchalik Committee paid rich tribute to Dr. Bhupen Hazarika on his 7th death anniversary at the Swahid Bhavan premises on Monday.
The day-long programme started with organizational flag hoisting by Pranjal Deka followed by swahid tarpan by Rinku Deka. Udalguri AASU general secretary Saiful Haque paid floral tributes to the portrait of Bhupen Hazarika. An all-religion prayer, plantation drive and naam-prasanga were also held.
In the evening, the cultural night programme was inaugurated by AASU central committee assistant general secretary Jayanta Kumar Bhattacharjya. Earlier 1,000 earthen lamps were lit by the same number of dignitaries from all walks of life. The programme earlier started with the immortal song Manuhe Manuhor Babe. Delivering his inaugural speech, Bhattacharjya said the works of Dr Bhupen Hazarika would remain immortal for inspiring the generations to come. He exhorted the people of the State to promote the message of brotherhood and communal harmony for a Bor-Asom which would be a tribute to Bhupenda. He lamented that the State Government had not adopted any steps for scientific preservation of the works of the music maestro as to pass on his rich heritage to the future generation and also by establishing research centre in every university of the State.
“The Assam Government should take hold of the maestro’s Kolkata house and restore it by establishing a museum and research centre at the earliest,” AASU assistant general secretary Jayanta Kumar Bhattacharjya added.
The Bhupen Hazarika Smriti Raksha Committee, Tangla also organized an event to commemorate the life and works of the bard.
