Assam reports 4 more coronavirus deaths, toll touches 98

Guwahati: Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared that four more people in the state have passed away due to COVID-19 infections on Friday, July 31.

The latest casualties have been reported from Hojai, Kamrup Metro, Jorhat, and Dibrugarh.

"Sad to share the demise of four more #COVID patients~ Late Manik Saha (68) of Hojai; Late Minu Banik (30) of Kamrup Metro; Late Gopal Das (68) of Jorhat; Late Bijay Sarkar (59) of Dibrugarh. May God provide strength to their families to bear the loss. Prayers!", Sarma wrote in a tweet.

With these four casualties, the number of deaths in the state has come dangerously close to the century mark – currently, the number stands at 98.

As on Thursday, the number of coronavirus cases in the state stood at 38,407, and the active caseload stood at 9,230.

As many as 20,080 people have been discharged so far after recovering from the dreaded illness.

Meanwhile, with a record single-day surge of 55,078 infections, India's Covid-19 caseload raced past 16 lakh on Friday, just two days after it reached the 15-lakh mark, while the number of recoveries rose to 10,57,805.
