GUWAHATI: COVID-19 cases in Assam has increased to 78 bringing the total to 7,24,926 as per the National Health Mission (NHM) bulletin.

On Friday, the positivity rate increased to 7.84 percent while on Thursday it was 7.54 per cent. Currently, the number of active COVID-19 cases has increased to 468.

The most cases, 61, were reported in the Kamrup (Metro) district, followed by 12 cases in the Kamrup (Rural) district and one case each in Biswanath, Goalpara, Jorhat, Nalbari and Tinsukia.

The number of COVID cases has increased after a more than three-month lull, with 587 new cases reported since June 19.

Meanwhile, the recovery rate is 98.83 percent, with 7,16,470 people have been recovered and discharged from hospitals.

On the other hand, India reported 17,092 new Covid-19 cases and 29 deaths in the last 24 hours ending 8 am Saturday, data from the Union health ministry said. The total number of active cases in the country now stands at 1,09,568.

New Covid cases in Mumbai dropped further to 978 on Friday, a day after the city registered 1,265 cases while Delhi on Friday reported 813 fresh COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 5.30 per cent, while three more people succumbed to the viral disease, according to data shared by the health department.
