Assam: Residents Block NH 15 Over Missing Man In Tinsukia
TINSUKIA: Residents of Kakopathar Maithong-Hahkhati Gandhoiguri Tiniali area in Assam's Tinsukia district have blocked the National Highway 15 to protest against the disappearance of Golap Duwara, a 37-year-old man from Gandhoiguri village, who has been missing for the past four months.
Despite repeated pleas, the police have been unable to locate him, leading to public anger. Protesters are demanding that authorities find Golap Duwara, offer financial support to his family in the meantime, and provide government assistance.
Golap was last seen after receiving a phone call from a contractor having a Sonowal surname in Dibrugarh. He had been working as cleaning staff on a train traveling from Tinsukia to Bangalore. Since then, his family has had no contact with him, raising concerns in the community.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, hundreds of autorickshaw operators in Dibrugarh blocked AT Road in protest against the rising number of unauthorized three-wheelers in the city. The protest, held outside the district transport office, caused heavy traffic congestion.
Operators claimed over 500 illegal three-wheelers are operating without permits, affecting their businesses. Protesters, including Bitupan Gogoi and Rajesh Das, expressed frustration, stating that their livelihoods were being harmed as they struggle to pay vehicle loans due to reduced income. They demanded immediate action to regulate illegal operators and ensure stability for those following legal procedures.
