TANGLA: The Nowram Das Path in front of Tangla Community Health Centre (CHC) in Tangla Town has turned into a safety hazard following the incomplete restoration work by the Public Works Department (PWD) after the recent construction of a drain. According to reports, the drain built under the Mukhya Mantrir Nagariya Pakipath Nirman Achani is fraught with discrepancies, as the work has allegedly not been executed as per estimate, and there is deviation from the approved design.

Moreover, side bumps of the road have not been properly filled and restored, causing severe inconvenience to residents and commuters. The manholes at the edges of the drain have already led to a mishap, with a child reportedly getting trapped in a dug-up hole. The unfilled space left by the construction work has made it extremely difficult for pedestrians and vehicles to navigate the area, posing a serious risk to public safety. Locals have expressed their frustration over the negligence, urging the PWD authorities to take immediate action.

“The road has been in this condition for weeks. It is not just an inconvenience but a real danger. If left unattended, more accidents could happen,” said Chandi Haldar, a resident. Commuters, including patients visiting Tangla CHC, are struggling to use the road, which remains uneven and hazardous with open manholes. With no visible signs of immediate repair work, citizens are demanding that the PWD complete the restoration at the earliest to prevent further accidents and ensure public safety. Residents and social activists have also called upon the Udalguri District Administration to intervene and pressurize the concerned authorities to fix the road without delay.
